Privacy Policy

Last updated 28 September 2026

This policy explains how JOAT collects, uses and protects personal information when you use this website, contact JOAT, or do business with JOAT. JOAT processes personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002.

Who JOAT is

In this policy, “JOAT” means JOAT Consulting (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2012/010902/07, and JOAT Sales & Services (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2012/010964/07. Both are companies registered in South Africa. JOAT is the responsible party, as POPIA defines it, for the personal information described here.

JOAT’s head office is at Unit 20 Alexander Park, 24 Alexander Road, Westmead, Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal, 3610.

What JOAT collects

The website forms collect only what JOAT needs to reply:

  • Contact form: your name, organisation, email address, phone number, preferred contact method and message.

  • Product and consulting enquiry forms: your name, organisation, email address, phone number, message, and the products or services you ask about.

  • Agent application form: your company name, where the company operates, a contact name, phone number, email address and a description of the company.

When you email or phone JOAT, it keeps the contact details and correspondence you send. When you buy goods or services, JOAT keeps what it needs to quote, supply, deliver, service and invoice them: contact names, delivery addresses, and order and payment details.

When you visit the site, the website host receives the technical details every browser sends, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested. JOAT counts visits with Framer’s built-in site statistics, which do not use cookies and do not store an identifier on your device. If you allow marketing cookies, Google Ads also records your visit, as the Cookie Policy explains.

JOAT does not ask for special personal information, such as health or biometric details, or for information about children. Please leave it out of any message you send.

Why JOAT uses it

  • Answering an enquiry and preparing a quotation

  • Assessing an agent application and replying to it

  • Supplying, delivering, installing and invoicing goods and services

  • Keeping the website running and secure, and counting visits in total

  • Meeting JOAT’s legal, tax and accounting obligations

JOAT relies on one of the grounds POPIA allows: your consent, steps you asked for before a contract or needed to perform one, a legal obligation, or JOAT’s legitimate interest in running its business, such as answering an enquiry sent to it.

Direct marketing

JOAT does not use enquiry or application details for direct marketing unless you agree. Where JOAT sends marketing by email or SMS to an existing customer, or to someone who has agreed to receive it, each message says how to stop further messages.

Who JOAT shares it with

JOAT does not sell personal information. It shares it only where the work requires it:

  • Framer B.V., in the Netherlands, which hosts this website and processes form submissions for JOAT

  • The email and business systems JOAT uses to receive enquiries and run its accounts

  • Suppliers and manufacturers, when a special order or a warranty claim needs your details

  • Couriers, when goods are delivered

  • Google, for measuring JOAT’s advertising and showing its adverts, only if you allow marketing cookies

  • JOAT’s auditors, insurers and professional advisers, and any authority the law requires JOAT to report to

Every operator that processes personal information for JOAT must keep it confidential and secure, as POPIA requires.

Information sent outside South Africa

Framer hosts this website on servers outside South Africa, so form submissions and visit data are processed abroad. Framer B.V. is subject to the EU General Data Protection Regulation. JOAT sends personal information across borders only where POPIA section 72 allows it, for example where the recipient is bound by law that protects it to a standard comparable to POPIA.

How long JOAT keeps it

JOAT keeps personal information only for as long as it needs it for the purpose it was collected, or for as long as the law requires. Details from an enquiry that does not lead to business are kept only while they are useful for following it up. Accounting and tax records are kept for the periods South African tax and company law set.

How JOAT protects it

Access is limited to the staff who need it, and those staff are bound to keep it confidential. JOAT uses technical and organisational security measures to protect personal information against loss, damage, unauthorised access and unlawful processing.

If JOAT has reasonable grounds to believe that someone has accessed or acquired your personal information without authority, it will tell you and the Information Regulator, as POPIA section 22 requires.

Information JOAT processes for customers

Some JOAT services involve handling personal information that belongs to a customer, such as data from metering and monitoring systems. In that work JOAT acts as the customer’s operator, and the Terms and Conditions of Sale govern it. Under them JOAT:

  • processes that information only as needed to supply the goods or perform the services

  • keeps the staff who handle it bound to confidentiality

  • applies technical and organisational security measures to it

  • notifies the customer within one business day of becoming aware of an actual or reasonably suspected breach

Your rights

Under POPIA you may:

  • Find out whether JOAT holds personal information about you, and get a copy of it

  • Have information that is wrong, out of date or incomplete corrected

  • Request deletion of information JOAT no longer has a reason to keep

  • Object to JOAT using your information, including for direct marketing

  • Withdraw a consent you gave, without affecting what was done before you withdrew it

  • Complain to the Information Regulator

To use any of these rights, contact JOAT’s Information Officer using the details below. JOAT may ask you to confirm your identity first.

This website stores one small item in your browser to remember your cookie choice. It sets analytics or marketing cookies only if you allow them. The Cookie Policy has the details, and Cookie Settings in the footer of every page lets you change your choice at any time.
